Benefits of Social Media for Looked After Children

The University of East Anglia’s Centre for Research on the Child and Family (CRCF) has published research findings which show that social media can be beneficial to young people in care.

The study was part of the Digital Life Story Work research programme lead by Dr Simon Hammond and found that social media can help maintain networks and reduce isolation, contribute to increased self-esteem and mental well-being, and provide opportunities to network with support organisations.

A summary of the research findings and a link to the article published in the British Journal of Social Work are provided on the University of East Anglia website here.
