The Department for Education (DfE) has published the government’s response to the consultation on the knowledge and skills statement for achieving permanence for children who are in or on the edge of care.

As a result of the consultation, key changes to the content of the statement include: there is now a greater focus on the need to listen to the child and take account of their views in decision making; the importance of multi-agency working is now emphasised.

The DfE will use the final knowledge and skills statement as the basis for a CPD programme to support social workers.
