WHAT DO PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT THIS IN THE NEWS RECENTLY WHERE FOSTER CARERS ARE TO BE ACTIVELY ENCOURAGED TO ADOPT A CHILD IN ORDER TO OFFER PERMANENCE? IN THE PAST FOSTERING PROVIDERS HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT THIS AND ACTIVELY SOUGHT TO KEEP CARERS AS CARERS FOR WHICH THEY WERE APPROVED?

Whilst Fostering services may be concerned about losing foster carers if they adopt a child, if adoption (or an SGO) is in the child’s best interests then this should be explored. Adoption is known to be statistically the most secure arrangement for long term care however this is a huge responsibility and one which should be explored fully.
