I know not a very nice title BUT why is it in 2014 is there still such an issue with some carers being over numbers whilst others are waiting placements. I read lots of forums and at present there seems to be a big issue with Foster Carers having empty beds BUT our phone never stops ringing even though we have a full house…….

Surely a central register has to be the way forward?

I agree Leanne but not sure how it would work in relation to identifying ‘vacancies’ as there would be so many variables in terms of approval and suitabilities … but a central register which included all foster carers and people who had applied to foster would ensure any applicants who were not approved or were deregistered could have the reasons for non approval or deregistration possibly made available to other IFAs or LAs to whom they later applied and this would help reduce the risk of unsuitable applicants who were not open about previous applications/fostering being approved

Leanne surely this has always been the case and not wishing to blow your trumpet good carers are always in demand. The level of foster carers does vary from beginners to vastly experienced and within this of course quality levels would be varied too. There is also the quality of the agency too and their functionality.

good matching is something I feel is not given enough attention when making placement phone calls especially in this economic climate where LAs are trying to keep children in house
