Recruiting the right people to foster can be very time consuming and extremely costly. Ofsted figures show that less than half of the applications to foster result in approval. More foster carers are urgently needed for children in care, especially sibling groups, teenagers, children with disabilities and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
This is why I appeal to every foster carer reading this article to “Be The Reason” that someone you know has made an enquiry to be a foster carer. Direct them to our advisors on Fosterline (0800 040 7675) or to the simple Contact Form on the Fosterline website and we will call them.
I have been a foster carer for the best part of a decade and it was a friend of mine that inspired me to make that first step towards becoming a foster carer. I have had amazing experiences in supporting children back to birth family or on to adoption. Fostering has also led me to adopt a wonderful son myself.
You will know your friends better than any fostering service. You know their capabilities, strengths and weaknesses and you know whether they could also offer a child a caring home.
I urge you today, to Be The Reason that someone you know makes a difference to a child in care.
