The National Crime Agency has published a Missing Persons Data Report for 2015-2016. It includes data from 37 of 43 police forces in England and Wales on people missing from care:

  • 29 police forces reported that 89% of 43,270 incidents involving those in care were children.
  • 32 police forces reported that 41,285 child incidents related to 10,395 individuals.

The charity Railway Children has called on police forces to improve their handling of missing children’s’ cases after this report revealed that some are inappropriately categorising those missing from care as “absent”. An article discussing this issue is on the CYP Now website.

The Missing Persons Data report can be viewed on the National Crime Agency website.
