Looked After Children and Care Leavers who are Long-Term NEET – England

The Department for Education published a report in February which includes analysis of the characteristics of young people who were not in education, employment or training (NEET) for a year, 3 years after completing key stage 4 in the 2010 to 2011 academic year. 637,200 pupils were tracked during this time period.

  • 37% of looked after children fell into the category of “long-term NEET” for the year
  • 18% of children in need went on to become NEET for 12 months.

The report can be downloaded from the Gov.uk website. An article discussing the report is on the TES website.
