The September 2019 version of the Department for Education’s ‘Keeping children safe in education: statutory guidance for schools and colleges’ came into force on 2 September 2019 and replaces previous versions. The guidance sets out the legal duties that must be followed to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people under the age of 18 in schools and colleges, and includes information relating to looked after children, care leavers, designated teachers and virtual school heads.
