The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has published a report on the findings of the Expert Working Group set up to ensure that the emotional and mental health needs of children and young people in care, adopted from care, under kinship care, under Special Guardianship Orders, as well as care leavers, would be better met.

The Expert Working Group conducted a review of literature about the mental health needs of looked after children, held a Call for Evidence of good practice, and interviewed 80 children and young people and 100 professionals looking after children and young people. The views of children and young people, key findings about the mental health needs of children in care, a new model placing the young person at the centre, and a series of recommendations are presented in the final report.

Further details and links to the full report, the executive summary and a website for young people are all provided on the SCIE website
