Pro Bono Economics has published a report, commissioned by the Children’s Services Funding Alliance (Action for Children, Barnardo’s, National Children’s Bureau, NSPCC and The Children’s Society) on spending on children and young people’s services over the last decade. It found that:

  • Between 2010 and 2020 local authorities in England have halved spending on early intervention services from £3.6bn to £1.8bn
  • Some councils in the poorest parts of England have reduced spending on early intervention services by over 80%
  • Overall spending on children’s services in the most deprived areas has fallen by 14% per child
  • The average annual cost of a child in care has risen by over 20% from £53k to £64k in the last decade
