HMRC has recently been having problems dealing with Class 2 National Insurance Contributions (NICs).

If you receive a bill from HMRC asking you to pay Class 2 National Insurance Contributions DO NOT automatically pay the bill without checking with your accountant (or calling our tax helpline on 01527 836910) to ensure the demand is correct – HMRC is issuing bills to taxpayers for Class 2 NICs that are not due.

Another error has occurred regarding Class2 National Insurance Contributions. If you were due to pay Class 2 National Insurance Contributions for 2015-16 tax year these were entered on your 2016 tax return. HMRC has admitted that due to a technical error some taxpayers’ Class 2 liability has been removed from their 2016 tax calculations.

If you receive an unexpected refund of tax paid please check with your accountant (or call our tax helpline on 01527 836910) to check that the refund is correct.
