Social work practice

What Works for Children’s Social Care has published interim reports on pilots in three local authorities in England investigating whether devolved budgets, which give social workers decision-making control of discretionary budgets to work with families, can help reduce the likelihood of children and young people being in care.

Findings from pilots in Darlington, Hillingdon and Wigan found that the initiative has received broad acceptance from children’s social care professionals; and social workers reported that the devolved budgets allowed them to help families in ways that would otherwise not have been possible.
