Thinking of fostering but heard you can’t?
There are many myths around who can foster resulting in many people ruling themselves out unnecessarily. Some things we often hear are:
- I’m too old to foster
- I’m too young to foster
- I can’t foster as I don’t own my own home
- I can’t foster because I am single
- I don’t have my own children so I can’t become a foster carer
- I am from the LGBT community so I can not foster
These are all fostering myths.
Often people rule themselves out of becoming foster carers as they feel there may be a barrier to them fostering. We need foster carers from a wide range of backrounds, races and religions. This can help ensure each child gets the right home, first time.
